Thomas Struth Study Visit Planning

I just completed my preparation for tomorrow’s study visit by reading the following:

Although I have only looked at the above briefly, part of my first impression of the Prix Pictet work is that it reminds me, in certain respects, of the work of Thomas Joshua Cooper – who has previously been nominated for the prize.  Struth’s own words:

“One can spend a lot of time in front of these pictures and remain helpless in terms of knowing how to deal with them. There is no sociocultural context to be read or discovered…”

must accurately sum up their impact upon many viewers.  I’m looking forward to the visit, I’m sure I will learn a great deal.
